Rapid urbanization and imdustrialization has led to continuous deterioration of air quality which is a major environmental problem in many urban centers in both developed and developing conutries. Air pollution is charaterized by high concentration of suspended particulate matter, oxides of sulphur and nitrogen resulting primarily from increased use of vehicles. About Author : Dr Shilpa Shyam, a young scientist in the field of environment has throughout an excellent academic carrer as a student. She was nominated by the Lucknow University to carry on PhD at Industrial Toxicology Research Centre, Lucknow a Constituent Laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Centre. She completed her research work at ITRC and was henceforth awarded PhD degree. She has worked on several projects related to Environmental Impact Assessment of industries NTPC etc. Dr H N Verma has a teaching and research experience of more than 40 years in Plant Virology & Microbiology. He is Professor of Botany and Head of Plant Virus Laboratory of Lucknow University. He is a Fellow of National Academy of Sciences and recipient of several prestigious awards. Dr S K Bhargava, Scientist-F and Head, Environmental Monitoring Section, Industrial Toxicology Research Centre, Lucknow, a Constituent Laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Centre, New Delhi, has earned PhD in year 1976 from Lucknow University and has published several research papers in National and International peer reviewed journals and chapters in books.
