The book, “Perspectives on Indian Education” has essays written by the author over a period of several years. It has three sections. The first deals with the long journey that Education took before it became a justiciable right of the people and describes some of the major institutions pertaining to education like the Association of Indian Universities, the University Grants Commission and the National University of Educational Planning and Development. The second section provides insights into some contemporary challenges. Consisting of six chapters, it deals with issues related to globalization and internationalization; the increased demand for higher education; affirmative action; skill development; the rise of private education and the correlation between teaching and research. The final section, consisting of four essays are devoted to some spiritual aspects of education together with the thinking of a few nationalist leaders like Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo and Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya.
