The author has painstakingly drawn a sketch to illuminate the Gujarati literature. The present work is incomplete, but it is to be hoped that the reception accorded to the story of this literature down to the beginning of the nineteenth century will encourage the author to continue the work done to the present time. A vernacular spoken by ten millions must have a literature and it is the duty of educated Gujaratis to improve the language, and enrich the literature, because it is only by means of instruction through the vernacular that those ten millions of people and their progeny can be brought to a higher level of education and wellbeing. The writers must use the novel, the drama and the satire to unmask the self seeker and parasite. They must place before the Gujaratis models of noble characters, so that the young may be constrained to strive to lead the noble life. The product of the book is extensive study of this literature. The subject of the book is quite interesting which generates a good amount of interest among the general readers.
