Through this little work the author has drawn a historical sketch of the Southern Maratha Country or BombayKarnataka, that is the territory included in the districts of Belgaum, Dharwar, and Bijapur from the Musalmans conquest till it became British territory that was the period from A.D. 1300-1818. During this period Kafur and the other Musalman leaders raided into the Southern part of the Peninsula. Their continuous raid broke up the existing Hindu dynasties. To effect the conquest of the country thus overrun, more was required than isolated expeditions, and as each wave of invasion retired the Hindus seem to have made head again. This thin 35 page book is an extract from the gazetteer of the Bombay Presidency, and gives short description of the events and people. This is a historical sketch of the southern Marattha country (then known as Bombay-Karnataka). The time span is between 1300 and 1818 A.D. This book is a reprint of the 1896 edition and good for the historical context
