The author has made a good attempt to highlight the history of the Gurkhas in Nepal. During his compilation he has borrowed the matter most freely from every authority and also extracts from various authors strung together, often with alterations and additions of his own. The classification of the various races of Nepal is almost entirely on his own. The descriptions of Magars, Gurungs, and Thakurs are fairly complete. The lists of Khas, Limbus, Rais, Sunwars, and Murmis are undoubtedly incomplete, and perhaps in parts correct; but to give a full and true list of their tribes and sub-divisions, can only be done after years of incessantly putting down on paper, each fresh tribe and each fresh clan of the same, at such time as a member of it presents himself for enlistment, and then by checking its accuracy over and over again. His classification of Gurkhas, Magars, Gurungs, Thakurs, and Khas, will be found almost identically the same. This title includes their descriptions; anthropology/ethnology; social life, and customs; manners & religious ceremonies; and, their history with special attention to their unique skills and remarkable valor.
