Released in the year 1887 to commemorate the jubilee year of the coronation of Queen Victoria, this is a concise book on Ceylon written on the state of the island in that year. It gives notices on the history of Ceylon and the progress made by the Island from 1796 to 1886. Other chapters deal in some detail with the native agricultural and manufacturing interests; the origin and rise of the planting industry; the later chapters give the attractions for the visitors, and the social life and customs. The book was first published in 1887 and has 42 illustrations.
