It is quite interesting that much of the information about Buddhism in India has been gathered from the Chinese pilgrims who travelled to this country. Two of them were Fah-Hian and Sung-Yun. Their writings are invaluable records of not only the state of Buddhism, but also as serious comments on the general historical background of their times in both India and China. This collection, compiled by the great Buddhist scholor Samuel Beal, contains the writing of Fah-Hian and Sung-Yun. The collection would be of definite help to both scholors and general readers.
Samuel Beal (1825 - 1889) graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1847. Between 1852 and 1887, he worked in the British Navy. Beal specialized in Chinese studies. His works include his own writings as well as translations. some of his famous works are Catena Of Buddhist Scriptures From The Chinese (1871) and Life Of Hiuen Tsang (1888). ISBN - 9788129102065
