The investment in public sector enterprises has grown from Rs. 99,329 crores in 244 enterprises as on 31.3.90 to Rs. 2,52,554 crores in 240 enterprises as on 31.3.2000. After the implementation of New Economic Policy in 1991, the thrust on privatisation, globalisation and liberalisation has built a newer economic fabric.
