Inspired by this study, the author undertook a major research project funded by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi to study the scope of SCP in India. The present book is based on the findings of these two studies. In India also a sizable number of crime results form the easy opportunity and due the lake of any effective thinking on crime prevention. This empirical research has been conducted in several parts of Madhya Pradesh on a sample of more than 600 crimes. It was found that SCP measures like target hardening and crime reduction technique of opportunity reduction can prove to be a deterrent to crime. About forty percent crime in India is estimated to be effectively intervened by SCP measures. The Police need to train to use these problem specific measures.
