Since the publication of the first edition of this book in the late 1960s, there have been continual improvements to the technology and practice of radar. This second edition contains extensive revisions and the inclusion of topics not found in the original. The emphasis of this book is on radar design to cope with the "total environment"-including unwanted reflec-tions from sea, land, precipitation, chaff, thermal noise, and jamming-rather than any single performance goal. It includes four chapters on detection theory, plus seven on waveforms and signal processing. Other chapters include essential data on radar targets, background and propagation. Specific signal processing techniques, with an emphasis on the new digital implementations, are discussed for the detection of moving targets by use of Doppler effect (CW, MTI, pulse Doppler), FFTs, fast convolvers and the pulse compression techniques (phase coding, frequency coding, and linear FM). The book also identifies newer, more specialized radar techniques, such as space-based radar, and describes how to analyze coherent radars including the limitations and related loss terms.isbn-8120325109
