From time immemorial, our saints and sages had been, through extensive study of ancient scriptures and the outcome of their own observations, collected, collated and compiled treatises on various topics from the field of Astrology. The invaluable fund of knowledge also contained remedies to ward off the ill effects of malefic planets. These remedies were picked up from books on Gemology, Ayurvedic medicines, meditation and Yoga. In Bhrigu Samhita, specific remedies have been given in each horoscope for countering the manifestation of malefics through their placements, aspects and combination with other planets. Remedial Astrology has wider appeal and application in India.
Vedic sages visualized that the commencement of a venture at the right moment could ensure success and for that reason, they evolved the technique of Muhurtas, Vedanga Jyotisha, general rules of Muhurtas and some forty specific Muhurtas. Culture of India is enshrined in religion and philosophy discussed in chapter four which contains exposition of Divine Worship as an astrological remedy. Chapter five is the master-piece in the sense that it deals with evolution. It gives an account of various remedies as discussed in Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra, Kashyapa Samhita, Yogini Jataka, Artha Sastra of Kautilya, Varaha Mihira’s Brihat Samhita, Prasna Marga, Uttara Kalamrita of Kalidasa, Deva Keralam, Jyotish Chandrika, Bhava Prakash, Jyotish Shyama Samgraha. Chapter six underlines the utility of Gems in particular.
Chapter seven is specifically devoted to the use of Gems expounded by Cheiro. Chapter eight is a unique contribution in the sense that it examines in depth the utility of forty nine Ragas and Raginis of Hindustani Classical Music to ameliorate planetary afflictions. Intimate connection between Music and Astrology is rarely found to have been dealt with in any other work on Astrology.
