This book recounts the sights encountered by the author while a seaman with the East India Company. He started his voyage in 1812 and ended in about 1814-15. As with all travelogues it too describes the customs, monuments, local life, commercial prospects, festivals, etc… of the places visited. They are the most miscellaneous character, dealing with almost every conceivable topic bearing upon life at sea, arranged with little idea of order. As it was impossible to reprint the whole of the work in this series; it was decided to select what appeared to be most entertaining portion, the author’s experiences in India, Ceylon, and Borneo. This book is a reprint of the 1931 edition and is selected and edited along with a biographical sketch of the author by H.G. Rawlinson.
