About The Book -: This book deals mainly with the music styles of North India. Having been written at the beginning of the 20th century this reference to North India includes those areas which are known as Pakistan. Though it touches on the music forms of South India namely Carnatic music its man focus is on the music of the North. Author in this book has dealt with each aspect of Indian classical music and has traced its origins through history which he has taken to include the Greek influence that had once been very common in India. In the tweleve chapters of this book he has not dealt with then history but with many major facets of the composition of this form also. This is followed by several chapters dedicated to the study of Indian Music as a whole. This encompasses the study of melody, composition, raga, mode, scale and rhythm which are the most basic essence of the classical form. All in all, this entirebook covers the whole gamut of Indian music as it is played in the North of the sub-continent even today.
