This is the travelogue of a British medical officer to the armed force, around 1875. Written in the manner employed by such travels, the author gives accurate and informative information of the areas that he travelled through namely Punjab and Kashmir. There are descriptions of cities, forts, bazzars, the people and their customs, geographical customs, personal experiences, popular but reliable histories, etc. There are four appendices in the book two of which give various routes to Kashmir from the plains, a text of the Treaty of Amritsar - wherein are laid out the terms and conditions of the sale of Kashmir to Gulab Singh. The text is accompanied by seven plates and a map. This book is a reprint of the 1879 edition.
