About the Book :- A well detailed volume on the natural history of Ceylon. It categories the mammals and gives their description and habits. A significant portion of the book has been devoted to the study of elephants; it gives an in-depth study about its life, its habits, its structure and notes on the methods of capturing and taming it. The last chapter of the book deals with mollusks with narratives and anecdotes illustrative of the habit and instincts of the mammalia, birds, reptiles, fishes, insects etc. A considerable portion of the contents of the present volume formed the zoological section of a much more comprehensive work recently published, on the history and present condition of Ceylon. This book is a reprint of the 1861 edition. But this Operation necessarily diminished the general interest of the subjects treated, as well by the omission of incidents which would otherwise have been retained. The subject matter of the book is good with fine pictures to make it very interesting.
