Two sisters Mary Leitch and Margaret Leitch were American woman who took up missionary work to Ceylon under the American Board in 1879. For seven years starting in 1880, they worked as Protestant missionaries in Jaffna, Ceylon (now known as Sri Lanka). During their seven years residence in Sri Lanka they have given an account of their experience and observation as a missionaries which is the essence of this book. This is an amusing collection of stories that recount the experiences and daily life of two American missionaries. They spent 11 years in Ceylon and Southern India preaching the gospel and trying to find as many converts as possible. The stories thus have a very evangelical bent and see the native customs through a condescending lens. The book has 33 stories in all and is accompanied by wonderful illustrations. This book is a reprint of the 1890 edition.
