The book is written by a Mohamedan of Ladakh who had worked for many years in the service of English and American travellers in the Himalaya, Central Asia and Tibet. The book is the description of the various places in these area; an account of the travels of the author. The secret is that these men, the best of them love adventure just as much as their employees. The fidelity with which he served is also evident throughout the book. As he was sensible of the beauty of the great mountains, when he saw one of those stupendous peaks which cluster round the second highest mountain in the world, he describes it beautifully; it was a very tall glacier of the mountain, very steep, covered much ice. This is also equally noteworthy in his close observation of men and their customs. The writer was a born-story teller. As interesting a part as any is author’s account of his enjoyments. Altogether the book is wonderfully human and gives us an exceptional insight of the spring of action of Himalayan peoples.
