About the Book :-This book is a result of field work that the author did between 1979 and 1982 in the Kotabowa village, a Sri Lankan Muslim village, about 75 miles south of Batticalo. This traditional Sri Lankan village was integrated around rice cultivation with its associated cultural values of sharing and reciprocating alliances. The disintegration of the economic centrality of rice in favor of new capitalistic economic avenues discussed by noted scholars, while apparent in Kotabowa, has not yet led to the replacement of the dominant economic status of paddy cultivation. The author has chosen a seasonal-cycle approach, whereby he studies the community and its changes, seasonally: the paddy season, the festival season, the harvest season etc. It contains three maps and five figures. This book is and AES publication of 1993.
