The books has 39 chapters, and starts with the stage of rituals of pregnancy, and proceeds to describe in remarkable and concise detail the ceremonies as the person grows. There are chapters on naming of babies, its introduction to the Quran, prayer, puberty, marriage, festivals, on visiting the shrines of saints, rules for keeping and maintaining a beard, exorcism, travelling, casting out evil sprits, auspicious dates for commencement of ventures, ceremonies of death, etc. There is an interesting appendix of various culinary delicacies, and a recipe for making a milk base drink containing marijuana; and an interesting glossary of Muslim terms. There are many quaint and rare illustrations of charms, talismans, evil geniis, and amulets in this book, which was first published in 1863.
