The author devoted almost all his leisure to the production of this discourse. He believes the book will not only be of use in the schools, but will also generate a good amount of interest amongst the general readers. It will assist the youth of the country to acquire some knowledge of their past. The writer of the book feels that it is sad to think that the study of the subject has for the past century received or no attention in the government schools. On the question of the teaching of Ceylon History in the local schools being raised by the Ceylon Social Reform Society, it was said that there was no suitable school-history available. After that the study of the subject as soon as a book brought into existence which took a proper shape given by the author in the hope of awakening past to the consciousness of the Ceylon people may spur them on to Endeavour to be worthy of the traditions of their forefathers.
