For a long period a small Sinhalese-English Dictionary has not been available. Owing to its price Clough’s Dictionary has not been in the hands of the village teacher and his scholars, nor of many others who need such help as a Dictionary can give. This edition is abridged from Clough; but alterations have been freely made to secure brevity and greater clearness. The work has been done at intervals and the result is a lack of uniformity and some errors; but it is confidently hoped that this Pocket Dictionary will meet a need and be of service.
