About the Book- This book has been compiled with the aim of highlighting the story of Samuel Fisk Green through the letters which he received from different persons within the span of his missionary life. Through the eyes of author Green was a medical missionary. He joined the American Mission in New York and along with a team of missionaries was sent to Sri Lanka in 1847. The first and second generations of the Greens of Green Hill had passed through the latter stage of the Colonial period with its institutions framed and guided by the mother country and the third had entered upon that epoch of conflicting opinions’ which culminated in the Revolution. The life of a family, so remote from the village and from neighbors, would seem to have been, inevitably, rather monotonous. The seclusion of their early home certainly did not prevent their early attainment to positions of great responsibility and usefulness. Though the book is a rare, it may be recognized even by those who dissent from the author’s views.
