This book lays down the results of a cruise, aboard a schooner named Terrapin, in 1901 to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands with the objective of collecting good samples of the natural history and ethnological data; special attention was paid to the collection of small mammals and they managed to find 16 new species. The chapters of this book notice a separate Island visited were Barven Island, Port Blair, Macpherson, Strait-South Andaman and Rutland Island, the Cinques and little Andaman, Kar Nicobar, Tilanchong, Trinkat, Nankauri, Kamorta, Kachal, little Nicobar, Pulo Milo, Kondul, great Nicobar and its coasts. The book ends with seven chapters on the Island and its inhabitants, the aborigines, the Nicobaries, an old account of Kar Nicobar, customs of the Kar Nicobaries and the fauna of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The book has 11 appendices that discuss the weather in the Andamans, the forests, the produce, census, government schools, flora, trade and barter. This book has 78 illustrations and photographs.
