This work is the memoirs of the author of her stay and travels in the east as the wife of the U. S. consul there. Along with the stay in India she travelled to the south east of Asia and this is where she begins to write the book. This volume makes no pretensions as a History of India; that wide field must be occupied by an abler pen. To impress the mind of the reader, by a portrayal of sights and incidents that passed under her observation during the years of her life spent in India, (the wife of an U.S. Consul there,) as deeply as her own mind was impressed by them has been the earnest aim of making it an eventful incident. It discusses - An English Rajah and Subjects - Borneo - Among the Hills of Java Batavia - The Fiery Mouth of Bromo - Buddha and the White Elephant - Waiting for a Throne - Buddhist Temples. The book contains 123 full page engravings and maps to delineate the theme of the book in a proper way. This book is very useful for common readers.
