This book recount the journey of Count De Lesdain, undertaken in 1904-1905, and lasted for 17 months. Starting from Peking they struck west of the Hoang-Ho in order to explore the Ordos Desert. Among other sports visited in the journey was Edchen Koro which contains the tomb of Genghis Khan. Traversing the districts of Shansi and Kanser and the Alashan mountains, they skirted the Gobi Desert and the Zaaidam district and crossing a part of the Kun-Lun range, they entered Tibet. Travelling over the Danla pass (where they encamped at a height of 19300 feet), they went past the Tengri Nor Lake and hit the Lhasa high road. They did not visit Lhasa, but traveling to the west of the city they made their way to Gangtok, in Sikkim, via Shigatse. This book is a reprint of the 1908 edition.
