The author has delved deep into the history of the European Travelers in India during the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries to explore new avenues. He reveals that it is obvious that more than one method of approaching this subject was possible. A careful dissection and analysis of the traveler’s narratives, regarding them as soulless depositories of facts rather than as human documents, would, doubtless, have been no means devoid of value. This style of treatment however was open to two serious objections. It precluded all but the slightest mention of travelers, who were not writers, or whose writing have perished, and it reduced a picturesque collection of romantic yearns to the level of unimaginative, monkish chronicle. The writer have not thought it worthwhile to adopt an elaborate system, but have aimed at simplicity, at the same time shunning uncouth forms, and avoid inconsistencies as far as possible. The book is the product of extensive study and research of European Travelers in India. The subject matter is good which generates lot of interest amongst readers.
