About the BookThrough this work, the author has made an attempt of its kind in Konkani, to the public, it would, be sufficient claim to their indulgence to state that the bulk of the work is the fruit of an extremely short acquaintance with English, and of a still shorter one with Konkani. But it should further be borne in mind that the writer has had not written materials whatever to assist him in his work. In spite of, he would call attention to the fact that all the words given in the dictionary as Konkani, with the exception of a few expressly marked, are really such. As regards the use of the dictionary, frequent references have been made throughout to the author’s Konkani grammar, lately published, which it presupposes, and of which indeed it is the proper completion. To the Konkani translation of an English word, words in brackets have sometimes been added; the reader must use his judgment as to when the sense requires the addition of the bracketed words, when not. So, the book is good for general readers.
