The author has determined to take upon the cloak of an explorer, and to penetrate into a new country. He hoped to combine business with pleasure, to bring back many useful geographical and other facts, and also to get some good shooting in a virgin country. He chooses Siam and Burmah to explore the news avenues. Lying as it does side by side, throughout its length, with new kingdom of Burmah, little known, and never thoroughly explored, it promised an interesting opening to the explorer. The people of the area are very nice, the women so clean, and plump, and pretty, and the men civil and obliging. The book is the product of extensive study of them. The subject of the book is very illuminating and delicate. There is no statement in the book to which exception may justly be taken. The pictures in the form of most of the faces of the tribe people are quite interesting. Though the book is rare one, it may be recognized even by those who dissent from the author’s point of view.
