Through this rare yet valuable work, the author has tried to portray the complete details concerning, archaeology of the Andhra Pradesh and its history during the third, fourth, fifth and sixth centuries. This work covers Buddhism in the regions of Andhra Pradesh, South India, and India in general. A Buddhist Stupa discovered recently in old Prome contained inscriptions in Kanarese – Telugu script of the sixth century. The commerce of India with the far East was not carried as one would think, through the port of Tamarlipi (Tamluk) or the ports of Orissa. It is from the country of Vengi that Indian ships sailed to go to the far East. It contains three maps and six plates. The subject matter of the book is very interesting. There is no statement in the book to which exception may justly be taken. The author has preserved these fine plates from oblivion. Though the book is a rare one, it may be recognized even by those who dissent from the author’s views.
