About the Book: The present book is the product of compilation from Schalch’s selections. It is also extracted from other sources. It’s a species of work that has long been very much needed. The vocabulary is proportionately enlarged, so as to contain more than twice the number of words to be found in Schalch’s. Few annotations also have added with a view to draw the learner’s attention to such parts of the grammar of the Arabs as differ that our own language. To give a zest in a work of this kind, in which such a multitude of vowel-points and other orthographical symbols are employed to make justice with the script. The few contractions occasionally used in these notes are sufficiently obvious. The work is very instructive and engaging for the students of Arabic. Though the book is a rare one, it may be recognized even by those who dissent from the Author’s views.
