This book is an edited extract of the history of Mewar, the kingdom of Udaipur, from the monumental 2 volumes of James Tod’s Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan. The author stayed in Rajasthan for the long period of 22 years from 1800 to 1822 as British Resident there. During his stay in this part of the land, the author watched from very close and he used his vast experience to describe vividly in this discourse. The chapters deal with the geography, the history of the Rajpoot tribes, feudal system, annals, festival and customs and a narrative of the author. The book is the product of extensive study of the kings, princely states and people of Rajasthan. The subject of the book is historic and delicate. There is no statement in the book to which exception may justly be taken. Though the book is a rare one, it may be recognized even by those who dissent from the author’s point of view.
