Materials constitute a major input to the manufacture of both consumer durable and non-durable products. Therefore, management of materials become crucial for most organizations to be successful in their business. Since the cost of purchasing, storing, preserving, moving and shipping of materials account for over half of the product`s cost, the focus of materials management will be on reducing both cost of materials and cost on materials, adding value to the products and improving profitability for the organization.
