Can someone measure happiness? In The Happiness Quotient the author lists a few simple tests by which a person’s level of contentment can be measured. The author explains ways in which the score on this chart can be improved for each person.
Everyone wants to be happy, but there is always something that seems to block it out. A health issue, money problems, trouble in family life, trouble at the workplace - the reasons can be many.
But, the author asserts that the Indian tradition has always held that happiness is the birthright of every individual. She shows that it can be achieved through verbal, tonal and non-verbal behaviors. For, she says that these behaviors influence the energy field around each person.
When the energy field around a person is affected by negative words, thoughts and actions, it creates tension and discontent and thus destroys happiness. The Happiness Quotient says that this energy field links all creatures together, it pervades the universe. Thus, if a person hurts someone else, then they have a negative effect on their own energy field too.
Thus, it is important to speak pleasant words, be kind and understanding, and always be positive in attitude and behavior. The author says that each individual is responsible for their own state of happiness or unhappiness.
No individual has control over everything that happens to them or to those whom they love, but each individual has control over their reactions to these events. A slight shift in perspective can result, for instance, in taking positive action to remedy the situation, or to see the positives in it if any, instead of getting bogged down and losing their sense of balance.ISBN - 9789380658445
