This book is a collection of the complete works of short stories by Guy de Maupassant.
Guy de Maupassant was born on 5 August 1850 near Dieppe, France. After his parents’ separation when he was eleven-years-old, he was brought up by his mother, who exerted tremendous influence on his literary life. After studying law, he began to work as a government clerk. His mother introduced him to Gustave Flaubert who was to become his mentor. His first short story, ‘Boule de Suif’ was published in 1880 and it was instantly hailed as a masterpiece. His first novel, Une Vie, was published three years later. Leo Tolstoy described it as the best French novel since Les Miserable. Regarded as one of the fathers of the modern short story, Maupassant’s work influenced writers such as Somerset Maugham and Henry James. He died in a lunatic asylum in Paris, from syphilis, on 6 July 1893 at the age of forty-two.ISBN - 9788171674312
