"Neta, Babu and Subsidy is a story of our times. It is a graphical story, a book you could browse through in just fifteen minutes, by looking at the charts, or take months to read and evaluate and examine the implications of what such data analysis actually shows. It is the statistical evidence of our economic decline in the last decade. The data is not new but when analysed rightly and charted, have a gripping story to tell.
It is true that sector after sector—be it energy, oil, coal, mining, fertiliser, food or trade balance—the performance of the UPA has been well below par all the way. What is worrying is that the trends in every sector have been strikingly similar and repetitive. We shall do this exercise again five years later and keep doing it regularly to improve efficient governance in India.
Research data is available in multiple formats in Western societies and debated by both economists, the administrators, the politicians, the political advisors, media and the citizen fiercely, a possible reason for good and quality governance in those nations. We hope we can achieve the same levels in India in the not-too-distant future and that the book adds to such a democratic conversation. "
