Man And His Symbols was Carl Jung’s final work before his death and the only one to be written for general readers with a non-psychology background. It is divided into five parts and was first published in 1964. Four parts from this book have been written by his associates, Aniela Jaffe, Joseph L. Henderson, Jolande Jacobi and Marie-Louise von Franze.
Man And His Symbols is an introduction to world renowned psychologist Carl Jung’s theories, particularly his famous theory on Man and his relation to his collective unconscious. Jung strongly believed that the unconscious mind relayed directions to the conscious self through symbols that man saw in his dreams, which tried to counsel and guide the conscious self towards a more fulfilling and complete life. In the book, he traces the influence of symbols from all over the world throughout history with thought provoking illustrations. The significance of dreams, the importance of symbols, and his theory of Archetypes and the process of individuation form the basic structure of the book. Carl Jung also analyzes the dreams of some of his patients as examples to underline his theories.
Man And His Symbols is considered a classic textbook for laypersons and has been reprinted several times since 1964.ISBN - 9780440351832
