About the authorNitin Gadkari is an Indian politician and a former president of the Bharatiya Janta Party(BJP). Born in 1957, Gadkaris foray into politics began as a karyakarta of the party. He worked his way up to become the Nagpur Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha president in 1981. In 1989, Gadkari first got elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council and then got re elected to the same for three successive terms. Between 1995 and 1999, he served as the PWD Minister of Maharashtra, his tenure best remembered for the deft execution of the Mumbai Pune Expressway. Gadkari subsequently became the leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council in 1999 and the president of BJPs Maharashtra state unit in 2004, before taking over as the BJP national president on 19 December 2009.
