This set of 2 thin volumes is a mine of information for study of the Pallava antiquities, most famous of which are the temples of Mahamalaipuram (Mahabalipuram). The set gives notices of the antiquities by 3 kings : Rajasimha, and Mahendra, Nandivarman, . Also in this book, for the first time are to be found studies of antiquities hitherto undiscovered in Panamalai, Singavaram, Melacheri, Armamalai, etc. Inscriptions are also given and the alphabets are examined closely. The book gives classifications of the antiquities, and aims to offer a monographs of all the various specimens of antiquity, be it temples, engravings, inscriptions, sculpture etc; The temple of Virattanesvara at Tiruttani is closely examined in volume 2. Volume 1 has 32 plates that are of photographs of the temples, inscriptions, sculptures; ground plans, sketches, elevations are also given. Volume 2 has 8 illustrations.
