This present book, published in collaboration with the National Archives of India, gives the narrative of the Indian part of the travels of these 2 well-known travelers. Both traveled during the reign of Aurangzeb : Thevenot, a Frenchman, visited India between 1666 and 1667, and Careri, an Italian, in 1695. Much in the manner of the travelogues written by European travelers in that century, these narratives are very observant, and notice just about everything that the travelers saw, heard, or experienced whilst they were here. The popular history, the state of the country, the description and the intrigues of the Mughal court, the mode of the emperor, description of wars and feuds, trade and commerce, local traditions, notes of the geography, etc, all find mention in this book. Both there men traveled extensively in the west of India, and made occasional forays to Delhi in the north, and Hyderabad in the south. This volume is a reprint of the 1949 edition ISBN :812062050X
