The book is explaining the qualitative issues related to teacher education. It starts with the historical overview of teacher education in India, which ultimately leads to privatization of teacher education. Over the years, India has developed a multi-tier infrastructure for teacher education. Due to the efforts of NCTE, State government and private sector, the establishment of secondary teacher education institutions gained a rapid speed. The philosophy of establishment of such institutions was to provide opportunities of training to a large number of youth, who want to be teachers. Most of the private institutions are claiming that they are providing quality education in teacher training but their motive is entirely different. Present teacher education system is moving towards qualitative downfall very rapidly. The half-hearted practices for quality improvement on the part of universities and state government are not resulting in desired manner and manipulators are still free to manipulate the situations. The universities are under suspicious situation, the roles of different bodies are not clear. The whole system is messified and needed an immediate reform, because at last,t he culprits of the system are again enjoying their success and victims are helpless.
In order to provide the idea current scenario of teacher education practices, with the help of case study, author has tried to visualize the mess present in the system. To explore deeper in the realm, author has put forward his research findings related to various aspects of teacher education institutions including their academic status, status of infra structural facilities and their administrative status. The book is an attempt to expose the real situation of teacher education emerged in recent past and to awaken the stalk holders to revitalize it as soon as possible.
