Book Summary of Educational Thought And Practice Education has always been seen as a fundamentally optimistic human endeavour characterised by aspirations for progress and betterment. It is understood by many to be a means of overcoming handicaps, achieving greater equality and acquiring wealth and social status. Education is perceived as a place where children can develop according to their unique needs and potential. It is also perceived as one of the best means of achieving greater social equality. Many would say that the purpose of education should be to develop every individual to their natural abilities allow. Few would argue that any education system accomplishes this goal perfectly. Some take a particularly negative view, arguing that the education system is designed with the intention of causing the social reproduction of inequality.
About the Author Prof. Punam Basu obtained her Master`s degree and Ph.D in Education and possesses a brilliant academic record from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. She is actively engaged in teaching, training, research, editing and consultancy. Presently, she is engaged as Professor in Kalyani University, West Bengal. Throughout her career she has been associated with many famous educational and research institutions in India and abroad. She has organized many national seminars and participated in many national and international conferences. She is the recipient of a number of prestigious awards and a fellowship at national level and is also an honorary member in the advisory member in the advisory board of many educational institutions.
