This book is a sequel to the India Migration Report 2009 on the theme of ‘Past, Present and the Future Outlook’. India is a major source country of immigrants in the US and Canada. Quite a significant proportion of them are highly-skilled people who have attained important positions in the mainstream economic and socio-political set up. Contrary to their position in North America, Indian migrants in South America and the Caribbean are not as highly-skilled and affluent, and majority of them had migrated much earlier as low-skilled labour. Indian migrants in these two continents, therefore, have different trajectories of migration.
In the context of these transitions, the book intends to provide an overview of migration from India to the American continents as well as immigration of foreigners and return migration of Indians from these countries to India. It will be an essential read for graduate students and researchers of Migration Studies, and professionals. Contents
