This book is a result of a comprehensive and intensive engagement of the author in the monitoring of the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka. It is based on an insider’s observation, personal meetings and interviews with many of the key protagonists in the war in Sri Lanka. The book contains core material for deciphering and understanding the conduct of the parties to the CFA. Furthermore it aims to explain the tactics and strategies applied and pursued by the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. Moreover the book exhibits a wide range of previously unpublished photographic material from various theatres of the conflict.
Jon Oskar Solnes was a Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission, an international mission composed of representatives from Nordic countries in order to enquire into any instance of violation of the terms and conditions of the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA), brokered by the Royal Norwegian Government in 2002. He is the principal author of several television productions in the field of international affairs and security, among others documentaries on UN Peacekeeping and NATO.
