Bhopal Gas Leak Tragedy, the worst industrial disaster of the world resulting in death of thousands and rendering lacs of people permanently sick, infirm and helpless, was not treated with the seriousness it deserved. It was treated as an ordinary motor vehicle accident and all the big people have ultimately been spared in the great feudal traditions of the criminal justice system in our country. Even the due compensation has been denied to the aam aadmi by executing agreements and enacting laws detrimental to the interests of this unfortunate mass of suffering humanity. During his tenure in the CBI, the author happened to handle this case for sometime when CBI was asked not to press for the extradition of the main culprit Warren Anderson. CBI, of course, did not agree. When somehow this fact became public on the occasion of announcement of court judgment 26 years after the tragedy, the powers that be, came down heavily bashing all those who uttered the unpleasant truth. This author was at the centre of this debate. That, however, generated public pressure and the Union government was forced to constitute a Group of Ministers that recommended an additional relief of Rs 1500 crores. The author analyses and exposes how pressures are exercised on the CBI and other investigating agencies and that restrain these agencies from bringing full facts on record. The absence of such facts leads to denial of justice in all big cases. The book also unveils some eye opening facts which are important for the people to know. The book presents a strong case to liberate the CBI and such other agencies from the control of the government in national and public interest.
