Census 2001 showed a sharp decline in child sex ration in states of north India. It has become a matter of grave concern for demographers, development professionals academicians. Focusssing on two of the objectives of Women Empowerment policy of 2001, WSDC carried out a multi center research study with four other women`s studies centers and one NGO. The present volume is based on the analysis of the data that has come from the institutions that were involved in the research. The locations of data collection are Delhi and districts of Jammu, Shimla, Kurukshetra, Nawan Shahar and Jaipur. The book gives insight into regional variation and rural urban differentials in attitude towards the girl child in contemporary society. The study confirms societal biases towards the girls but also reflect a change in mind set more clearly in some locations of enquiry.
