India for centuries has attracted foreigners because of its wealth and natural resources. Since the seventeenth century, there existed a keen competition among European Maritime powers to with India the fist among the Europeans to reach the shores of Kerala were the Portuguese. They were followed by the Dutch the French and British. The English East India Company began of one hundred fifty years, it acquired territorial control different parts of India. My present study deals with the East India Company’s timber trade that was carried on between the Malabar province and the Bombay town between 1792 and 1823. My study further deals the shipbuilding industry that flourished in Bombay because of the timer procured from the Malabar. My concern is to locate the networks that development between these two important regions.
