This volume contains 16 papers presented at the International Seminar on `The Evolution of Medieval Indian Culture: The Indo- Presian context` held at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. It highlights various aspects of the Persian culture acclimatized to the Indian environmenta which came to be known as the Indo- Presian culture. The papers have been classified thematically into five parts, each one arranged broadly in chronological order. The first part on `Political Institutions and Ideas`, is a reflectio on the political ideology of Muslim empires of India. The second part of `Religious Traditions`, is devoted to Sufi dimensions. The third part deals wioth formative phase of Mughal painting and book illustratio, with examples of Mughal narratives and of some illustrated Persian manuscripts from the Deccan. The fouth part on Music examines the contribution of Indo-Persian texts of Various literary geners to the history of art music in the Sulatanate of Gujarat and at thd Muthal and Awadh courts.
