`This academic book is a record, and then analysis, of the antiquities unearthed, or recovered, by the author during the excavation of the site of Patliputra (known to the Greeks as Palibothra), the early 1900’s. this report starts with a chapter on historical introduction of Patliputra; other chapters deal with the search for the lost site; its discovery; the excavations – of the city, the walls, and the palace of the Mauryas. There are 9 appendices that note, among other topics : the Mauryas; origin of stone building and sculpture; legend of the founding of Patliputra; descriptions from Chinese records; Upagupta – the high priest of Asoka, etc. There are 9 illustrations that show the site, its ground plan, sections, sculptures, as well as a map of the extent of Patliputra.
