Supported by a postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, from the University of Nottingham, UK, he specialized himself in the multidisciplinary area of inertial sensors and systems and created significant national capabilities. He received Dr. Biren Roy Space Science and Design Award instituted by Aeronautical Society of India, for outstanding contribution to Indian Aerospace in the year 2000. Subsequent to retirement in June 2002, he received Distinguished Visiting Professorship Award from Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) for four consecutive years for delivering lectures at the Indian Institutes of Technology on inertial navigation and the related inertial sensors. He has also co-authored two books on the same subject.
K.N. Bhat, PhD (IIT Madras), is Emeritus Professor, Centre for Nano Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He has served as a Professor, Electrical Engineering Department at IIT Madras and as a Visiting Professor at the University of Washington Seattle (USA). Dr. Bhat has taught several courses both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Professor Bhat has wide experience in teaching courses on Nano devices and MEMS Technology and mentoring research scholars and coordinating major projects on MEMS based pressure sensors for aerospace and biomedical applications. A Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, he has coauthored two books. His teaching and research interests include Micro and Nano devices, Silicon and GaAs VLSI, MEMS Technology, Solar cells and Power Device.
Thomas Kurian, MTech (IIT Kanpur), Ph.D., is Dean (R&D) and Head, Department of Avionics, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram. Earlier he served in Indian Space Research Organization. In ISRO, he was responsible for the design and development of the stage control system for PSLV, GSLV and Reusable launch vehicles. As Group Director for Computer and Digital Systems group at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Dr. Kurian led a team for the design and development of on board computers for navigation and control, sequencing systems, imaging systems and the telemetry systems for the launch vehicle.
