The present book entitled, Contemporary Crime in Indian Society is based on selected papers presented in RC-18 \`Sociology of Crime and Deviance\` under Indian Sociological Society. The papers included in the book debate and discuss various aspects of contemporary issues related to crimes and offences prevailing in Indian society viz., Violence against Women, Corruption and Crime, Gender Discrimination, Female Criminality, Human Trafficking, Juvenile Delinquency, Domestic Violence, Urban Poverty, Slums and Crime, Cyber Crime, White- Collar Crimes, etc. The present book covers extensive detail, comprehensive trend and pattern about each aspects of existing crime and crime related problems. The book gives certain effective and remedial solutions with which a step towards a better society may be taken into consideration through the formation of more relevant policies related to the prevention of crime. The book is useful to researchers, who are interested in an area of crime, scholars of social sciences, government bodies, NGOs and a much wider readers., ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Ramesh H. Makwana is presently working as a Professor in PG Department of Sociology at Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat. He held the position as Honorary Director of Dr Ambedkar Chair from 2010 to 2013. He has been working as the Convener of RC-18, Sociology of Crime and Deviance under Indian Sociological Society since 2008 and as the Secretary of GSS for the period from 2012 to 2014. Prof. Makwana was awarded with Dr Ambedakar Award along with cash prize of Rupees one lakh for his milestone social work. He received Sardar Patel Award for training of effective leadership and empowerment of women Sarpanch in Panchayat. He has Bharat Shiksha Ratan Award to his credit for his excellent contribution in education, research, and extension and youth development. His areas of specialisation are political sociology, weaker section and women studies.
